In this post I will share with you the techniques I have used that have enabled me to get into top 10 and 20 position in Yahoo and Google search engines in only 3 months with zero knowledge, zero training in SEO and zero link exchange or any other methods that some other gurus may teach you. These are all my techniques that I have discovered through a lot of hard works, trial and error and burning the mid night oil figuring out the methods.

Just a brief history about myself. I am currently an engineer working for a international project management consultant. I don’t know anything about internet marketing 5 months ago i.e. beginning of 2008. At that time, I don’t even know what is the difference between a blog and a website. I don’t know how to upload a website nor how to create a blog then. And I only know how to upload video to Youtube as recently as 3 weeks ago (end of August 2008).

For your information, this is my first time using WordPress and only my second blog. Before that I had created a Blogger but was not active in it. Meaning I have not done anything to it other than upload a few posts. So I hope you can bear with me if my WordPress blog turns out not looking exactly the way I wanted.

I get to know about internet marketing and was attracted by its potential as advertised by some internet marketing coaches in local newspaper. So between November 2007 to January 2008 I started to attend some preview seminars but did not signed up because all of the courses were very expensive. They cost from SGD$2000 (USD$1470) onwards. Only in March 2008, I decidedly to sign up with this internet marketing super affiliate guy because it is the cheapest with a lot of bonuses.

Everyone keep telling me it is very difficult to rank high in Yahoo especially in Google and 10 times more difficult if you want to rank high for very generic short keywords e.g. two words keyphrase. Even the guy I took my first and only internet marketing course from, told me the same thing.

My website promoting affiliate products ranks in the first page of search result for some very generic key words. How generic? Well, is “dog food” generic enough? How about even more generic like “pet food”? I achieved this high ranks in only 3 months into internet marketing business.

How do I did it in only 3 months? And some of the keywords I was able to rank on top of the list and even out rank the merchant’s website that I was promoting. 

Well to be frank, I am surprise myself. In August 208, I realised that even though I have stopped my PPC for 2 months already, my opt-in rate of subscribers remains high. Here is my story I will reveal to you how.

I started my affiliate marketing in May 2008. For my first attempt in affiliate marketing, I decided to  promote a products related to dogs. So I created a single page landing page and started to market it with my limited knowledge in SEO. Initially I was not even able to find my own website in Google or Yahoo. After about 2 or 3 months of fine tunings, I noticed that even though I had stopped my PPCcampaign for about 2 months already, subscribers still keep coming in with the same rate as before. Needless to say, sales beginning to go up as well.

So in late July 2008, I started to check my website ranking by manually typing into Google and Yahoo search box for some keyphrases that a visitor will normally search if he want to find out about the information related to my affiliate product. At this stage I still do not know how to check my ranking more effectively.

I decided to installed Google Tools into my Internet Explorer. There is an option to add in “Page Rank”. So when I go to my website (it is a single page landing page for the only affiliate product I am promoting), the page rank shows 3/10. Wow! I was so surprise and happy! It actually showed some green bar.

How my website managed to climb from ranking of 0/10 to 3/10 in short space of only 3 months without me learning any of the SEO techniques or linking that some of the gurus out there propounded?

You see, for the past 3 months, I have been spending a lot of time in fine tuning and experimenting with my website late into the night and sometimes as late as 6am or 8 am the next day. In the weekdays I still need to go to work by 9am. So you can imagine, how tired I were in the office.

Come back to the ranking. Here is a list of how my website ranked for the following keyphrases in Yahoo and Google (please note that I started checking my ranking for these keywords only 2 days ago i.e. September 11th, 2008):

I have went through some of the hard works. I still consider myself a relatively newbie in internet marketing. As a relatively newbie, I am able to understand the needs of a newbie in order to start off in getting their website into the first 20 position in Google and Yahoo. The techniques I have used to get top ranking does not involve high power SEO techniques or complicated techniques. Infact, my technique is the most easiest way you can find. It is so simple that even a grandma can do it. (Just a note, it is simple now for you because I have done all the hard work and burnt countless hours every night fine tuning and experimenting).
