Some quick tips, strategies, and reminders for the planning events for this month and next:

  • Thanksgiving weekend is often a popular for visiting sites, when families are looking for something to do with guests.
  • Christmas is often a major attendance draw at historic, ask staff about vacation plans so you can be sure you’re adequately covered for events and daily tours.
  • Issue a news release to the newspapers and be sure to include something distinctive about your event from the many others that occur during this period.
  • Offer newspapers photographs or an opportunity to take early photographs of holiday decorations or events (you may need to set up something, like staff decorating a tree, Santa trying on a suit for size, or a vendor showing some of the new items for sale).

Thinking ahead to December 2008, remember that Hanukkah begins at sunset on the 21st, Christmas falls on the 25th, and Kwanzaa begins on the 26th.
